Software trainers must be able to explain the technical complexities of our software effectively. The trainer’s audience may include people with a wide range of computer skills and educational levels. The audience may also vary in size from just a few people in an office or online setting to an entire roomful of people in a professional seminar. Trainers must be able to structure their presentations to fit the circumstances. Like any good teacher, the trainer must also be able to measure how well the students are absorbing the material and to adjust the presentation accordingly.

An important part of good teaching is preparation, which requires strong organizational skills. Good preparation allows a trainer to present the material quickly and efficiently. However, trainers must also be able to change course and adapt to the needs of the students. Trainers must anticipate which areas may be more difficult for students and the types of questions students are likely to ask. A trainer must also be able to address the needs of individual students without slowing down the entire class. The trainer must present materials efficiently and at an appropriate level for those being trained.

Essential Functions

  • The Software Training Specialist will be trained and become proficient in all SPIDA applications
  • Conduct online and onsite software training sessions for SPIDA clients, mechanics of materials, structural analysis and finite element
  • Provide software demonstrations and trainings
  • Become well versed in SPIDA Software products
  • Clearly identify and document use cases of clients and users
  • Possess the ability to learn and apply industry Safety Codes to all products
  • Provide technical support to SPIDA help desk and external customers
  • Create and review client data files for accuracy and integrity

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Associates Degree or equivalent experience with a focus in Engineering.
  • Prior experience with SPIDAcalc software or similar applications, the telecom and/or electric utility industries is desirable but not required.
  • Experience working within a software development environment and familiarity with software development practices and lifecycle
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, clients, business partners, and other third parties.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organization.
  • Background or experience in utilities, software quality assurance and/or software development.
  • A quick learner and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work.
  • Capacity to work independently and take ownership to solve.


  • Once COVID-19-related travel restrictions are lifted, travel may be extensive within the US and Canada (approximately 50%) and the candidate must maintain a valid passport and clean driving record, along with a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
